Plans are afoot to establish the Sangam ITI in the incomplete buildings belonging to Lanco company. SPSR Nellore Collector Himanshu Shukla visited the buildings at Tharunavayi village in Sangam mandal on Thursday at the behest of the Endowments Minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy, who is also the local legislator.
After inspecting the buildings that have remained incomplete for long, the Collector proposed the idea of shifting the ITI to the premises after the civil works of the structures are completed. The ITI is currently functioning from the Government Polytechnic building in Atmakur.
Mr. Shukla discussed with officials the works required to make the buildings functional, including providing electricity, drinking water and other allied infrastructure. Engineers estimate an initial cost of ₹8 crore to complete the works.
The Collector also suggested tapping funds from industry through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to complete the first phase of construction, so as to shift the institute at the earliest. The ITI currently has 120 students and 11 teachers.
The Collector exuded confidence that the student strength would surge once the institute is shifted to this premises.
