IPS officer Sanjukta Parashar, a 2006‑batch Assam‑Meghalaya cadre, has been appointed as the Inspector General of the CRPF’s elite CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action) unit, making her the first woman to head the jungle‑warfare commando force.
Parashar, who previously headed the CID wing of Assam Police and served in the National Investigation Agency, will oversee CoBRA’s deployments across forested regions in Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand that have been reclaimed from Naxal insurgents, as well as two battalions stationed in Manipur amid ongoing ethnic tensions.
Known as the “Iron Lady of Assam” for her 2013‑14 crackdown on the National Democratic Front of Bodoland that resulted in 16 militants killed and 64 arrested, Parashar’s rise comes as the CRPF expands women’s representation in key commands, alongside officers such as A.
