Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday (October 30, 2026) said a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) will be implemented in Uttar Pradesh if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won the 2027 Assembly election. Urging party workers to work towards winning the polls, he said, “The Uniform Civil Code has been implemented in several States.
Uttar Pradesh will be the next. Make a Bharatiya Janata Party government, and we will implement the UCC here.” Mr. Shah, who was addressing the BJP’s State executive meeting here, said the BJP will get a “massive majority” in the State.
“The BJP government in Uttar Pradesh is as firmly rooted as Angad’s foot, and no one can dislodge it. Our party is once again going to form the government in U.P. with a massive majority.” Congress cites The Hindu article to allege SIR is leading to deletion of genuine voters Deep rot: On the Election Commission of India’s functioning during its SIR ECI affidavit on SIR is ‘deceitful and duplicitous’: Congress Mr.
Shah challenged the Leader of the Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, and the Samajwadi Party (SP) chief, Akhilesh Yadav, to a debate on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) but said they just want to “create a ruckus”. “I challenge both you (Mr.
Gandhi) and Akhilesh Yadav right here and now: the BJP is fully prepared to discuss this (SIR row) in Parliament. We have nothing to hide. Let us convene a special session of Parliament, but they have no intention of speaking there.
They refuse to let Parliament function. Instead, they just create a ruckus.” Hailing Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Mr. Shah said, “I want to praise Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Under his leadership, the government has provided strict governance and freed Uttar Pradesh from the mafia.” Hitting out at the SP, the Home Minister wondered how the party could talk about forming a government after opening fire on Ram devotees.
“Today is October 30. This date holds importance in Uttar Pradesh and in the entire nation. On this day in 1990, then Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav ordered firing on Ram devotees. I would like to ask the Samajwadi Party today, how can you talk about forming a government after opening fire on Ram devotees?
We are the party that worked towards the construction of the Ram Temple,” he said.
