Teen stabbed to death during Ganesh idol procession in Indore

Indore police confirmed that a teenage boy lost his life after being stabbed during a Ganesh Chaturthi procession, while his 15‑year‑old friend sustained non‑life‑threatening injuries. The incident was reported by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Rajesh Dandotiya, who identified the deceased as Krishna Panwar, 16, and the injured teen as Sahil Rathore, 15.

The clash occurred at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Monday, September 14, in the Musakhedi locality, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Azad Nagar police station. According to the FIR filed under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 103(1), 109(1), 118(2) and 296(b), the dispute began when the accused, also a 16‑year‑old, pushed the two boys during a dance segment of the procession and subsequently stabbed them with a knife. Panwar suffered chest injuries and was declared dead at MY Hospital, while Rathore’s condition has been reported as stable.

Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations draw large crowds across Madhya Pradesh, and this violent episode has raised concerns about crowd management and youth safety during public festivals. Community members expressed shock and grief, urging authorities to enhance security measures for future events. The police have formed a special team to apprehend the suspect and are conducting further inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the altercation.
