‘Knew what would happen’: Gurgaon sealing drive extends to Sushant Lok, South City

The enforcement wing of Haryana’s Department of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) carried out a large‑scale sealing drive on Thursday in the Gurgaon colonies of Sushant Lok‑1 Block A and South City‑1. District Town Planner (Enforcement) Amit Madholia and Assistant Town Planner Divya Dahiya supervised the operation, which targeted unauthorised paying‑guest (PG) facilities, guest houses, commercial offices and rooms illegally built in stilt‑parking areas.

Among the properties sealed were a PG operating out of A‑589 in Sushant Lok, a 36‑room guest house that spanned two residential plots, a 20‑room hotel, three separate guest houses and PG accommodations comprising 32, 39 and 27 rooms in South City‑1. Ground‑floor brokerage and corporate offices in Block B were also locked down. DTCP officials said a recent survey found violations in nearly 90 % of inspected properties, prompting the use of earth‑movers and manual labour to dismantle brick partitions and UPVC fittings that had turned parking decks into rental quarters.

The crackdown follows directives from the Punjab and Haryana High Court and the Supreme Court to curb illegal commercial activity in private licensed colonies. Local residents’ welfare associations have welcomed the action, citing chronic water‑supply strain caused by the unregulated lodgings. Sealed premises were marked with red DTCP notices warning that any tampering would trigger criminal proceedings under the Haryana Development and Regulation of Urban Areas Act, and an FIR would be filed for violations.
